Strangford

Strangford is a remote and intimate beat that offers total seclusion perfect for an individual or small group for a day on the riverbank.

The upstream section of the beat is a sweeping bend with a high bank and deep water from the end of your rod. A broad section of fast water flows over gravel to shallower water with ranunculous beds. This section is perfect for holding barbel and chub in the summer and for winter fishing when the water is higher.

The downstream section gives way to shallow fast-flowing water which is ideal is for wading and float fishing, or rolling meat.

Access is via a working estate and care must be taken at all times to close gates and respect the space of livestock.

During dry conditions the upper section of the beat can be accessed by vehicle where there is a short walk to twelve swims and wading entry points.

If there has been heavy rain then parking will be off-track and a walk to the river of 10 minutes is necessary, so it is recommended to travel light.

Additional details for your day will sent with a booking confirmation. Please look at our contact page and FAQ’s.

  • "I love fishing the Wye each year but my previous visits although enjoyable were missing the fish. A visit to Strangford and that changed, with plenty of chub and barbel in a beautiful backdrop."

  • "What a superb day fishing in glorious surroundings. Catching a barbel float fishing has been a goal for a long time and it was achieved several times! Credit must go to Ian's guidance and incredible knowledge. We will be back next season for more fun days".
