dean & Chapter

Dean & Chapter is historically one of the most productive beats on the Middle Wye and takes its name from the pool at the uppermost of the beat. Set in a steep backdrop of old limestone quarries and woodlands abundant with wildlife, this stunning double-bank fishery has with many pools, riffles and glides, flowing over gravel and stone for over a mile.

There are 28 posted and roped pegs giving access to natural riverbank swims and during normal summer conditions has superb wading and float fishing.

Fishing is restricted to the left bank so there is no posibilty of other anglers on the opposite bank.

Access to most swims is possible with a vehicle during dry weather. A four wheel drive or high clearance car is recommended.

The best way to make the most of Dean & Chapter is to travel light with a roaming approach to your fishing.

  • "Thoroughly enjoyable few days on both beats and plenty of fish caught using all methods. particularly enjoyed my P.B. barbel whilst float fishing, which i thought was just luck until another came along. All shared with a very friendly kingfisher who kept me company throughout the day fishing from my resting rod."

  • "Having fished both beats over the last few years i cannot think of anywhere else that offers great catching opportunities in any conditions. there's something for everyone in terms of access. if you want to fish next to your car then you are able to, or wander off to remote sections with a rod and some bait. i willl be a regular visitor but don't expect me to tell my friends."
